2019 League of Legends Update and Worlds Predictions
Just like mainstream athletics, esports has become a global phenomenon where fans and pundits make predictions on their favorite teams and the outcomes of matches and tournaments. So much so that top online betting sites like sportsbetting.ag frequently line out odds on tournaments and match-play.
League of Legends is no different. In fact, it was one of the first esports to get picked up by betting communities in addition to LoL’s die-hard fan-base.
Let’s start with the 2019 World Championship.
Worlds Pick’Em
The 2018 League of Legends World Championship ended with Invictus Gaming standing on top. But who will be victorious this time around? In 2019 the Worlds head back to Europe. It’s been four years since the League of Legends World Championship was held in Germany, and this time, fittingly, the City of Light will play host.
LCS
At the time of writing, Team Liquid stands on top of the 2019 Spring LCS standings with 42 points. Their 14 wins and 4 losses is enough to separate them by a full 12 points from the No. 4 spot, held by FlyQuest.
Cloud9 also has 42 points, but head to heads have determined their second-place position. And hot on the heels of both is TSM with 13 wins, 5 losses, and 39 points.
LEC
G2 Esports currently holds the 1st place in the European division with 13 wins and 5 losses. They are followed by Origen, Fnatic, and Splyce with 12 wins, 11 wins, and 11 wins respectively. But Team Vitality and SK Gaming are in the hunt, hot on the heels of Vitality and SK Gaming.
LCK
In Korea, Griffen leads the pack with 14 wins. They are followed by SK telecom T1 with 12 wins and a two-way tie for 3rd between Sandbox Gaming and KING-ZONE DragonX.
LPL
FunPlus Phoenix rules China at the moment. Their 11 wins and 2 losses has them just ahead of the defending World Champs, Invictus Gaming, who currently sits in the regular season with 10 wins and 3 losses. Topsports Gaming has the same record but sits in 3rd.
Who are we likely to see at the Worlds?
Liquid and Cloud9 are playing fiercely, so they are the likely candidates to get automatic bids out of North America. We could see TSM make the cut as well or play in. G2 Sports seems like a shoo-in out of Europe. Origin has a great shot, and don’t count out Fnatic. Although Griffen is currently leading in Korea, I would predict SK telecom to overtake them and finish at the top of that region. And in China, Invictus is going to make it once again along with FunPlus Phoenix.
Soon enough you will be able to log into the Worlds Pick’Em page and start making your prediction selections. You start with the group stage and make picks by selecting the order in which you think teams will finish … think of it like a World Cup bracket. Who is poised to smash their group? You’ll get two points for each correct prediction of which teams will make it to the knockout stage and three additional points for the correct order. As you move to the quarters the points get upped to five and then finally 10 per correct prediction in the semis.
What’s in it for You?
Well, a whole lot of fun. But you also get limited edition icons and Worlds tokens. If you make a perfect bracket, you get an amazing cache of Ultimate Skins … So yeah, it is worth your time.
