So I Tried... Gameday Mayhem!!

Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never played before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. For this challenge, I am trying out Gameday Mayhem!! My kids are huge NFL fans, so I was hoping to find a silly sports game that was enjoyable for all of us.

What I thought it was

When I saw the cover art for Gameday Mayhem!!, it had football players that appear like they were from a game on the Nintendo or Super Nintendo, so I figured the gameplay would be similar to sports titles from that era. Based on the game’s title, I knew to expect something silly and outrageous.

What it actually is

Gameday Mayhem!! is pure chaos. The only thing about it that is similar to playing a retro Madden-style game is that you throw the ball to a teammate and you run across the field to get a touchdown. The computer players on your team don’t care if they catch the ball or not and do whatever they feel like doing. There are no penalties, so you can repeatedly smash into your opponents, and if you are lucky, you will get to the item crate that drops onto the field. Inside are guns, and you can grab one and shoot at your opponent to make them drop the ball. It was so crazy and unexpected!

Will I keep playing

Definitely! I haven’t played a game that made us all laugh so hard in a long time. There are no real rules here: pick the red or blue team and basically do whatever you need to get the ball across the field and score a touchdown! The games are only around three minutes long, so they are perfect if you only need to kill a few minutes. It is so chaotic and fun, and you don’t need to be a sports fan to enjoy it. I can’t wait to try out the game with other people to see the look of shock on their faces when the guns drop and madness ensues. Plus, it is free, so you have no excuse not to try it!
