Top Games Coming Out in April 2022

Top Games Coming Out in April 2022

The top game releases for April are pretty quiet like the indie titles, but we have each chosen five titles that have caught our eye. Spring is on its way along with Easter, will any of these titles be special treats? retrogamergirl here and these are my choices for April!

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition — 7th of April

Chrono Cross

Back on the Super Nintendo, Chrono Trigger was one of my favourite RPGs. I never had a PlayStation so I totally missed out on Chrono Cross, so I was super excited to see that it was going to be released with upgraded graphics and with The Radical Dreamers story available as an audio novel.

I can’t wait to play this epic RPG that I’m sure will have incredible music, and takes place over two distinct timelines with over 40 party members to meet. This is sure to be a grand adventure!

House of the Dead: Remake — 7th of April

The House of the Dead Remake

Back on the Wii I played a ton of House of the Dead: Overkill and had a great time blasting all the creepy zombies that were hunting you down. I’m interested to see what the remake of the 1997 arcade classic will be like. I love rail-shooters so I’m interested to see how it will be updated for today’s standards.

As long as it’s a fun arcade shooter experience with entertaining enemies and characters I will be pleased!

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (Switch) — 12th of April

13 Sentinels

This game has been previously released on other consoles, but now is coming to the Nintendo Switch. 13: Sentinels: Aegis Rim takes place in Japan in the 1980s at a high school where students are forced to fight in a war between mechs and hostile kaiju. The story is non-linear and you control 13 different students, each with their own personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. The game looks beautiful and I can’t wait to meet all these different characters and see how they interact with each other.

I have always been a fan of shows and movies featuring both kaiju and mechs so I can’t wait to have epic battles between the two!

The Serpent Rogue — 26th of April

The Serpent Rogue

A beautiful-looking action-adventure game set in a medieval fantasy world where you take on the role of a mysterious character known as The Warden. You will be exploring forgotten lands, taming wild creatures, and mastering alchemy skills. Alchemy teaches you how to create potions which will help you defeat the evil Serpent Rogue that is spreading and taking over the land. It is up to The Warden to protect the realm.

I love that you get to explore the whole land to discover secret passages, and expand your knowledge by crafting and experimenting with potions to use against your enemy. It looks like this will be a fun and challenging title to check out!

Nintendo Switch Sports — 29th of April

Nintendo Switch Sports

Back in November 2006 I was one of those people who lined up in hopes of getting the Nintendo Wii on launch. After multiple attempts I was finally able to pick one up and got to experience motion controls for myself with Wii Sports. We are now going to see a new updated version called Switch Sports that includes bowling (one of my favourites), football, tennis, volleyball, badminton, and swordplay (called chambara).

I am hoping that this will be a great multiplayer experience once again, and that this time I don’t get tennis elbow from swinging my arms around like a maniac — boxing I am looking at you. This is sure to be a great title to get everyone up off the couch and moving; be sure to wear your wrist strap to avoid controllers flying at the television!

Artura Slashes Into Action2

Hello fools! April's here, and with it, brand new games to want to cry over, as Wally the wallet isn't full enough to buy them, and I don't have the means to get them. That said, it never hurts to shake Wally up a little bit and see if he coughs up a coin or two!

So, let's see which games I'll be shaking Wally for this month, shall we? Starting off with...

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga — 5th of April

Lego Star Wars THe Skywalker Saga

I've played LEGO Star Wars - The Complete Saga a lot. I've finished the game over five times throughout my life; it's easily my favourite LEGO game. That said, I can't help but wonder if perhaps there is a new king in town.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is coming out soon, and I am at the edge of my seat; I can't wait to see if I'll love it like the others. Playing through all of the nine films sounds like quite an enjoyable journey, and I'm sure I'll be there on launch day when it comes out on the 5th of April!

Orcs Must Die! 3: Tipping the Scales DLC — 7th of April

Orcs Must Die 3

I'm going to be honest with you: I've never finished Orcs Must Die 2 despite how much I love that game; I picked it up in a sale after being enticed by the premise but never really played it because I hate tower defence games. Despite that, Orcs Must Die! 2 charmed me, I loved it, got distracted, and never finished it.

So perhaps Orcs Must Die! 3: Tipping the Scales might just be the thing to get me through the game! This franchise will forever go down in history as my favourite tower defence game, and I'm ecstatic to hear that the third instalment is getting a DLC. Maybe I'll pick it up! Or maybe I'll give Wally a break and finish the second one first.

Godfall Ultimate Edition — 7th of April

Godfall Ultimate Edition

Either retrogamergirl and I have a particular affiliation to the 7th of April, or it's just a really good day for gaming, but Godfall Ultimate Edition is finally exiting its exclusivity deal and joining Steam!

As a Steam loyalist, I tend to try and avoid playing games outside of the launcher; seeing the achievements and playtime all make my account look legendary is just unparalleled. So, when Godfall Ultimate Edition was released on Epic Games, I turned a blind eye. Now though? Now I'm all for it!

Back 4 Blood: Tunnels of Terror (DLC) —12th of April

Back 4 Blood Tnnels of Terror

My wife and I love Left 4 Dead 2, despite the numerous arguments we've had over the title. I still reminisce about bringing the "Rush & Attack" mentality to the PvP modes, where I would just abandon my AI teammates to her mercy and try to get to the safehouse; I was competitive. This quickly stopped when she started doing it too, and a truce was made that we'd play slower. Nowadays, despite not taking the "Rush & Attack" method, we still are far too good to fight each other, but those were good times.

Now, with Back 4 Blood out, we wanted to get back and love the game. Although we can't sacrifice our AI pals to the mercy of the other, we can enjoy the game with other GameGrin staff, and with the Tunnels of Terror DLC coming out, this might be the right time to do so!

Zombie Army 4: Dead War (Switch) — 26th of April

Zombie Army 4

Let's be real, we all want to kick Hitler’s army in the nuts, and that's why we play through every Call of Duty campaign even if it's the same thing over and over. Well, this time, you get to play what a campaign would look like if it was based around the Zombies game mode!

Fight the army of the undead... now on the go! Zombie Army 4: Dead War for Nintendo Switch will feature all of the content from the first season for free! I suck at playing shooters on consoles, and I've always wanted to get better; it's exactly because of games like Zombie Army 4: Dead War that I've felt like that. So, although I'll probably be enjoying the game on Steam, you can do so through the Nintendo Switch!

That's it for my side of the list! Although quite a few great things are coming out, it seems like I'll only be torturing Wally to give me enough money to buy LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga… For now. Although that's it for our April list, make sure to check all of the indie games coming out. Otherwise, stay tuned for our upcoming article for the upcoming May games! Until then, see you next time, fools!
