Atomic Picnic Releases New Mod System and Reworks Discoveries

BitCake Studio and Mad Mushroom's Atomic Picnic released on Steam Early Access last year, and their Roadmap has already revealed a fair few things coming to the title. We already got Rose, the newest character to join the roster, but that wasn't all that was coming with this major update.

The Weapon Mod system debuts in this latest update, letting players change their build and enhance their playstyle. With this, it should change the way players interact with weapons and skills by adding a bit of customisability and uniqueness to your favourite builds.

Weapon Mods come in different forms:

  • Primary Mods, which affect important things like your shooting style. From three-shot bursts to homing missiles.
  • Reload Mods that changes the functions of Fast Reloads
  • Skill Mods, which add secondary attack types to your weapons.

This should give players plenty of options in regards to building, letting you alter the way you approach different builds. Mixing together Weapon Mods and making unique builds based on that will give the player all-new ways to modify the experience.

The update also introduces a rework to the Discoveries system; this new reworkis meant to add complexities and more depth to the system. Requirements in place to unlock items have been reworked to add new conditions that are more interesting or more intricate, such as requiring the player to use a specific device and deal damage rather than just dealing damage.

Those who have already previously played will be given the opportunity to reset their Discoveries and start over so they can interact with the new system. Though, this is an opt-in approach, which means that if you're satisfied with your acquisitions, you can stay with your current unlocks, just that future Discoveries might unlock nothing if it was something thatwas already acquired.
