Ayaneo Unveils First Modular Handheld Console

The Chinese-based Ayaneo company is known for their innovative approach to PCs, trying to grow the handheld and mini PC sphere with all sorts of new consoles. Founded in 2020, their models began with the first Aya Neo back in 2021, a year before Steam's dominant Steam Deck would morph the entire industry.

Now, the team is back once again with the official release of the AYANEO 3. Advertised as the world's first modular handheld console, this new idea tackles giving the user the option of choosing between a few modules and opting for even their rotational axis.

The main selling point is the customisability of these modules (named the AYANEO Magic Module), where you can pick from six different modules and three types of joysticks to select from. If you're a fan of first-person shooters or want to use your handheld device as a portable computer, you can use one (or both) of the trackpad options for easy mouse control.

The 56 possible layout combinations give you access to choose between the Xbox and PlayStation builds; whether you prefer asymmetrical or symmetrical joysticks, you get to pick your order by turning the module upside-down. The ABXY buttons are also removable, giving you access to select your preferred face-button setup from the Nintendo Switch to the Xbox.

Furthermore, fans of graphics and high-power titles will be pleased to hear its impressive specs, too. Boasting a 7'' touch screen with a 1080p resolution, you'll be able to select between the OLED or LCD variants to get your preferred colour depth. To run these impressive visuals, the AYANEO 3 comes in two models for varying levels of power: the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 or the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U.

Finally, those who are already sold will be able to get it in three different looks: the Starry Black, the Sky White, or the gorgeous Retro Power that is sure to tickle the fancy of old-school gamers. While the first two are offered in the standard packages, the Retro Power can only be gotten with 64 gigabytes of RAM and two terabytes of memory.
