FURYU Corporation Unveils VARLET a New High School RPG with a New Trailer!

The acclaimed Japanese game developer, FURYU Corporation has released a trailer for their newest game, VARLET; a high school RPG which will draw upon FURYU's previous experience in making immersive story-driven games.

Players will attend Kousei Academy, the first school to implement Johari, a cross-reality virtual network which everyone uses to find basic information, buy items, and utilise as a social media and messaging app. Due to the use of Johari, users have an increased desire to gain approval and the attention of their peers, which leads to the circulation of an urban legend about users disappearing into otherworldly Glitches. 

Users disappear into Glitches if their desires grow too strong, but there's more. The monsters inhabiting the Glitches are said to replace the users who have disappeared, leaving those in reality unaware that their classmate has been replaced. It's our protagonist who discovers the truth of this urban legend, and realises that some students have already been replaced, forcing them to stand up to them.

Our protagonist is a member of the Student Support Services (SSS), a guild which dedicates itself to solving the troubles of Kousei Academy. Players will need to guide their friends, strengthen their bonds, and fight together to protect their school from impending doom. But you'll need to be careful when navigating your relationships, as getting too close to too many people may lead to some unexpected consequences. 

At it's core, VARLET uses the dynamic Triad Stats system which will shape your character's progression through the choices you make. The six distinct attributes are divided between Light and Dark Triad traits, and so will influence dialogue and passive battle skills. Light stats put emphasis on morality, altruism, and sympathy, while Dark stats lean more towards the psychopathic, Machiavellian, and narcissistic approach. 

It's up to the player to uncover their true nature, working as a leader who uplifts and empowers, or a ruthless dictator who wields immense power despite the personal cost. 

VARLET is set to release on 28th August 2025, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.  More details about VARLET will be released by FURYU Corporation in the coming months, so keep an eye out for more to come!
