Sony is Increasing PS Plus Price In the UK

Sony is Increasing PS Plus Price In the UK

Sony have confirmed that prices for monthly and three-month PlayStation Plus subscriptions are increasing in the UK.

Monthly subscriptions are seeing a small increase from £5.49 to £5.99, while three-month subscriptions are seeing an increase from £11.99 to £14.99.

The 12-month subscription remains unchanged at £39.99.

A statement from Sony reads: “We are dedicated to bringing PlayStation Plus members the best possible service with the most compelling content. From 1st September 2015 we will be increasing the price of monthly and three-month PlayStation Plus subscriptions in line with market conditions. We will continue to invest in PlayStation Plus to ensure an unparalleled experience, featuring the best quality games and features.”

Europe has already seen a price increase, but there's been no word if similar changes will be seen on other regions.

Soo.. What they're telling us to do is buy a monthly or three-month subscription at the very end of this month, or to buy a yearly subscription.

I expect the money will be well worth to purchase now at the cheaper price as the may possibly raise the quality of the subscription?

That statement above means "you're going to be paying us more, for the same stuff" IMO. It's just business.

There's 7.9 million PS+ subscribers apparently. If they all (hypothetical, since they're not all UK users either) use monthly payments, then Sony just netted themselves a cool £3,950,000 extra a month. Seems like a little extra to you and I for a month's worth of subscription, but to Sony - it's a lot, lot more...

I get you. But maybe since it's currently only been the European region so far, could this be the increase due to VAT or whatever the situation is with prices around the world compared to the UK? Orr, am I chatting nonsense?

Well, it goes some way to explaining what "with market conditions" means...

No change for those paying yearly, but those that can't afford that lump-sum will be upset!

If you pay annually, you get 4 months 'free' over paying monthly/quarterly. Not sure why anyone would opt for monthly to be honest.

I get the idea of "can't afford it"... but if that's the reasoning, then the person has probably made bad monetary choices elsewhere... :X

Yeah...I'm talking kids that only get given (X) amount of pokcet-money a month - less so for those that are employed.

Cloud services aint gonna pay for themselfs.

I can see both MS and Sony increaing prices as we make more use of the cloud be it for AI / Aditional horsepower for grahics or just extra services.

Still good deals both sides imo, the free monthly games I get on the 360 / XBOne pay for the service easily.

Same I agree. It was expected to be honest. Hopefully this might mean Sony will change the PlayStation Now service to be part of PS Plus. Also I like that Microsoft have confirmed Xbox One gamers will get the 360 titles as well with backwards compatibility.
