Steam Massively Expanded Its Monthly Top Releases Charts
Valve has been a long-time home to all sorts of games over its many years of service, and in the bid to give players more information on the latest games releasing, they've been running Monthly Top charts since its inception in April 2019. Though the system has been in place for a while, Valve has been looking to expand it and make it more sustainable in terms of work efficiency and showing it to players.
The expanded Steam's monthly top-releases chart has now been massively overhauled, featuring all sorts of quality-of-life improvements to ensure that browsing is made easier for those who wish to give it a shot. In addition to these changes, there's also the inclusion of the Gold, Silver, and Bronze system that has been historically used in yearly releases, now available for every month.
So, what's new in Steam's top monthly releases?
- You can view each month sorted by Gold, Silver, and Bronze
- Every month will share the top 50 games sold on Steam, ranking them in each category by revenue earned (but not in order)
- The bottom of the site shares customised information, including a "for you" section and filters
- The new algorithmic system dates back to November 2004 to give you an idea of the top 50 releases monthly
- It will now be updated with the previous month's analytics on the 15th of every month
The monthly top releases focuses on all of the games launched that month, but it also highlights titles launching on Early Access, and notably, it'll also allow them to be featured a second time on their 1.0 launch date. In a similar vein, DLC (like expansions) will also be eligible to appear on the charts if they qualify in terms of revenue gain.
If any given month is showing fewer than the 50 titles that are supposed to appear, that might be due to set preferences. From ignored titles to preferences regarding content, the different tiers might hide things based on what you have selected on your account (for instance, April 2025 has three 18+ NSFW titles included, which might be excluded from your viewing depending on your settings).
