The Vanishing of Ethan Carter - New 13-Minute Gameplay Video and Release Date
Mystery-adventure fans rejoice! Astronaut Games - formerly People Can Fly, developers of Painkiller and Bulletstorm - have released 13 minutes of gameplay for their new game, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. It has a focus on atmosphere, exploration and discovery, and incorporates elements of the horror and the supernatural into its story.
The game sees you playing as Paul Prospero, a detective specialising in the supernatural, who arrives in Red Creek Valley following a disturbing letter from Ethan Carter. Upon arrival, he finds that the boy has disappeared, prompting investigation into several unexplained deaths. The narrator, Adrian Chmielarz, skips several sections of the game to avoid spoilers, but we do see the subtle approach to detective work with keywords and questions hovering over analysed areas.
The walkthrough also shows off the impressive visuals; Bulletstorm made excellent use of Unreal Engine 3, and the developers are set to continue their graphical prowess in Ethan Carter. Red Creek Valley is a large environment containing beautiful vistas, detailed terrain and realistic vegetation, all of which can be explored in a non-linear fashion.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will launch for PC on September 25th. You can find more information about the game at ethancartergame.com.
