Xbox Series X Stock Update: Microsoft Actively Working to Ramp Up Console Production

Looking for one of the new consoles? You aren't alone. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X (as well as their respective digital-only counterparts) are among the most sought after consumer items in the world right now, and that fact is not lost on the console manufacturers themselves.

Phil Spencer, Executive Vice President at Xbox, recently commented on the stock shortages and difficulties facing would-be Xbox Series X|S owners. Speaking on Major Nelson's podcast (starting at around 27 minutes), he stated on behalf of the company: "We're building them as fast as we can. We have all of the assembly lines going". He continues, "I was on the phone last week with Lisa Su at AMD (asking), 'how do we get more?' So it's something we're constantly working on."

Spencer also highlights how the entire industry is facing stock shortages: "it's not just us. I think gaming has really come into its own in 2020." He explains, " there's just a lot of interesting gaming right now. Console sales are just a sign of that."

So there's light at the end of the tunnel for console-starved players out there, albeit faint light. Microsoft believes that consumers will have to wait until Q2 (around April) of 2021 for stock to become widely available. So, even with assistance from AMD, consoles will still be scarce and you'll still have to get lucky if you hope to get your hands on one anytime soon.
